🍇Carignan, Mouvédre, Syrah and Cinsault
This "little bull" shows a slightly more muscular side of Calce, with the peppercorn notes of Carignan and the dark, sensual notes of Mourvèdre at its heart. Stylistically, this wine is unmistakably "Padié": elegant yet rustic, emotional yet reserved.
Jean-Philippe Padié is a classic himself – a generous, lively and delightful man who joins the ranks of Matassa, Gauby and Pithon, and who first showed the world what delightfully subversive and uplifting wines could come out of a region so defined by heat. Jean-Philippe, who first worked under the management of Mas Amiel and the highly respected Domaine Gauby, began his own adventure with around 6.5 hectares in Calce, which has grown to around 18 hectares over the past twenty years. These 18 hectares are spread across a mosaic of at least 30 different plots, showcasing the rugged variation of soils, exposures and altitudes that make each Calce wine unlike any other. Jean-Philippe’s work has cemented him as one of the winemaking figures of this place, notable and well-regarded by many.
